Alcatel-Lucent acquired U.S.-based Mformation, a specialist in mobile and 'Internet of Things' (IoT) security and device management solutions for mobile operators, service providers and enterprises. The Franco-U.S. equipment manufacturer, which itself is in the process of being acquired by Nokia, said the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Mformation will be incorporated into Alcatel-Lucent's IP platforms unit, and will bring in an IoT security and control platform that can be used across different industries including automotive, healthcare, utilities, manufacturing and the digital home. Additionally, Mformation's software products are expected to extend and enhance the capabilities of Alcatel-Lucent's Motive device management solution for home, mobile and enterprise networks. Nokia and industrial investment company China Huaxin agreed to establish a joint venture combining Nokia China and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB) once the proposed merger of the Finnish equipment manufacturer with Alcatel-Lucent has been closed. This is stated in Nokia release . The move, which appears to resolve the question of what would happen to the European vendors' respective China-based assets following their merger, will see Nokia holding 50 per cent plus one share in the new joint venture, with China Huaxin holding the remainder. The proposed combination will require approval from Chinese authorities. Nokia stressed that the new joint venture "is conditional on and would be formed after the closing of Nokia's planned combination with Alcatel-Lucent." You will soon be able to send much longer direct messages on Twitter . The site plans to remove the 140-character limit on its direct messaging feature in July, the company revealed in a post on its developer forum on Thursday. A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to Mashable the character limit would be changing sometime in July but declined to provide more specific timing. The character limit for regular tweets, which is also 140, will remain in place. "You may be wondering what this means for the public side of Twitter," Sachin Agarwal, Twitter's product manager for direct messages, wrote in the post on Thursday. "Nothing!
