Family business (a series of short stories divided in parts)

Part II. Future parents

Zack was wandering nervously around the house. His pregnant wife was just about to give birth. Zack was a general practice doctor and soon he had to leave for a doctor's training. He dreamt of opening his own private practice as a family doctor. But right now all his thoughts were occupied  with Emily and their baby. Zack couldn't stand thinking that she would be giving birth and he won't be around.

He went into the dining room where Emi was preparing to serve the dinner. He looked at her with an endless tenderness and love. Zack could only imagine what an excellent mother she would be. Emi heard that he had come in and turned around. "Honey, I looked in the mirror in the morning and spotted how fat I've become. I've put on so much weight", - complained Emi.

"My dear, you shouldn't be so upset. You're about to give birth to our first child and afterwards you will lose weight", - Zack tried to calm down his wife. "You know, I probably will not go to that doctors' conference. I can't stand the thought that you will be giving birth and I won't be around", - said young doctor. "Honey, don't be so worried. I have a good doctor he'll take care of me and you can easy go to your conference", - said Emi. "I still have to think about it", - replied Zack.

It was already the time for him to leave for work so Zack said goodbye to his wife and left the house. His working day began as usual. His first patient was a little 3 year old boy who had put inside his nose a small racing car. Zack put it out and checked another nose thrill. There was another small car inside. Zack put it out also and notised that this was a very small police car. "Your son must have been playing street racing. At first he took the racing car who was going with the too high speed and then sent the police to get it", - stated Zack. It is hard to express the level of embarrassment which appeared on young father's face.

Another patient was an elderly man who came with his wife and was complaining for arthritis. Zack had just begun to examine the patient when his cell phone rang. "Hello", - answered young doctor. While he was listening his face expression was slowly turning into a big sincere smile. "I've just become a happy young father", - said Zack after hanging up the phone. "Congratulations!", - said Gregory and Lillian in one voice. And Zack couldn't stand the thought that he had to wait the whole working day until he could go and see his wife and their newborn baby.
